
Paul Hamel currently lives in Palm Springs, California where he is the president and founder of Hamel Publication. He also a partner of Frogg1 Productions, a film making company.
Paul's career in education began when he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon, Africa for three years teaching English as a Second Language at the secondary and university levels. From there, he moved to Los Angeles where he received a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from UCLA. Immediately after he graduated, Paul returned to Africa where he taught in an intensive English language program for professors at the University of Zaire in Lubumbashi, Zaire, now called The Republic of Congo. Upon returning to the United States, he immediately got a position directing and teaching in an intensive English language program for the resettlement of thousands of Russian speaking refugees in the Los Angeles area. Next, he was hired to teach ESL for the Los Angeles Unified School District at Fairfax Community Adult School where he eventually became a tenured teacher. Concurrently, he taught ESL part-time at Santa Monica College. From there he became a refugee program coordinator at Abram Friedman Occupational Center in downtown Los Angeles. During this time, Paul received his second master’s degree in Educational Administration from California State University, Los Angeles. Next, he was appointed assistant principal of El Camino Real Community Adult School in the west San Fernando Valley where he supervised the school’s ESL program. He also served as acting principal for a year. Next, Paul was appointed principal of Fairfax Community Adult School. Finally, he became a regional adult school principal of Westside Community Adult School responsible for Fairfax, Hamilton, Pacific Palisades, and University Adult Schools in West Hollywood and West Los Angeles before he retired in 2009. During his first few years of retirement, he taught ESL part time at the American Language School at UCLA Extension in Westwood for three years. After moving to Palm Springs, he taught ESL part time at the College of the Desert for two years. Paul no longer teaches. Instead, he devotes his creative time in writing ESL educational publications such as textbooks, comic books, and supplementary teaching materials as well as travel books and art books through his publishing company.
In 2016, Paul entered the film business as an executive producer and an actor. He became a partner in FROGG1 Productions that produces short and full-length films such as the recently released film called GRADATION. In addition to publishing and film producing, he also finds time to share his experience and offering free teaching materials by posting a daily “teaching tip” for new teachers on Facebook.
